At Pwll Du you have a full range of choice of walks between those fancying a gentle stroll across the uplands to the network of footpaths and bridleways through the local woodland and surrounding farmland. There are a number of published circular walks in the area. Details of each route are held at the Centre or at the local Tourist Information Centre.

The area gives mountain bikers a natural trail experience, exhilarating and satisfying. There are single track mountain bike routes through forests, over mountains through streams and open commons.

Close to Sustrans routes perfect for cycle touring and exploring around Abergavenny, along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and to the industrial heritage of Blaenavon.

Guided tours on the nearby Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, or the River Wye, about 30 minutes drive away.

Instruction and improver coaching, including optional BCU (British Canoe Union) 'star' awards.

Unaccompanied canoe and kayak hire on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal or Rivers Wye and Usk.

Using the security of a top rope system beginners can quickly get to grip with moving around on the rock face.

Abseiling is a fun activity in itself as well as being an important part of the wider climbing skills.

A typical caving trip is an adventurous journey exploring large caverns, tight squeezes and submerged streams and has some of the best and most easily accessible caves in the country Wales

All trips are led by knowledgeable guides who will make your time underground as rewarding and entertaining as possible. – usually at Llangatwg, but we may travel to other caves.

Activities based around Pwll Du Adventure Centre

A wide range of activities, either self led or instructor led are available at the Pwll Du Adventure Centre. If you wish we can provide the following options: 

Half-day options (2 per day).   NB, it may be necessary to split full-size groups and alternate morning and afternoon activity sessions for some activities.

Orienteering – starts/ends at Pwll Du Centre.

Gorge adventure with abseil – short car journey to start/finish. 

Raft-building with optional race – 10 minutes’ walk from Pwll Du Centre.

Bushcraft – based around Pwll Du Centre.

Archery – based at Pwll Du Centre

Full-day options (1 per day)

Adventure Trail: Orienteering with gorge exploration and abseil – starts and finishes at Pwll Du.

Treasure Hunt: Follow the clues to find the treasure.  Starts Pwll Du Centre – return to Pwll Du Centre when you have found the treasure!

The Black Hole Challenge.  This is ideal for mixed age/ability groups, as there will be elements suitable for all so everyone can contribute.   On arrival we will present you with a challenge, either for the whole group, or for two or more teams competing. 

Other Activities

River canoeing and kayaking, canoe and kayak hire on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, Caving, and Rock-climbing can be arranged at other locations with journeys varying from 15 minutes to 45 minutes’ drive from the Pwll Du Centre.  You will need to make your own transport arrangements to the venue.
